Five secondhand categories that sell well in late summer, from fall flannel to team apparel, with what the tag tells you and roughly what to pay.
Reselling has a calendar, and buyers start shopping for a season a few weeks before it arrives. Late summer is when the fall and back-to-school money starts moving, which means the deals worth grabbing now are not the ones selling today. They are the ones that will sell in September. These five categories are worth working the racks for right now.
1. Fall outerwear and flannel
Cool-weather layers wake up in August as buyers plan ahead. The heritage names carry the price. Kids clothing with a recognizable character or licensed print sells through August as parents restock. The plain stuff is worth almost nothing used, but a shirt with a named show, team, or franchise on the front competes with far fewer listings and sells to a parent typing that exact thing.
3. Early Halloween
Costumes and decor start moving in the back half of August, weeks before the holiday, and the sellers who listed early catch the first wave. Complete costumes with all their pieces, and any branded or hard-to-find decor, are worth setting aside now rather than in October when everyone else lists at once.
4. Team apparel, before football season
