Reselling News: Vinted's US Terms Land October 8 and Poshmark Bills Ads to Your Balance

A fee that changes its name and an ad bill that never touches your bank account are both small edits on paper. Both of them are also the platform telling you how it would like you to think about money. Two updates landed over the weekend.

Vinted's US terms are posted, and the fee lost the word protection

Last week the European rewrite was public and the American one was not. It is now. Vinted's US terms page carries the line "New version applicable from 08-10-2026", which is October 8 in the day-first format Vinted uses across its sites. Value Added Resource read the US, UK and Australian versions against each other on September 7.

The headline change is a rename. What buyers used to pay as a Buyer Protection fee is now simply the Vinted fee, and the new text calls it "a mandatory platform fee, payable by buyers when placing an order through Vinted." The old name implied the money bought a service. The new one says it covers operating the place. Nothing about the amount changed, and nothing about the actual dispute process changed either, so treat this as honesty about what the charge always was rather than a downgrade.

One timing change does affect you directly. Across all three markets, a seller accused of listing a counterfeit now gets 48 hours to supply authenticity evidence instead of 24. That is a real improvement if you sell branded goods, because a claim landing on a Friday no longer expires before you can find the receipt.

Read past those two and the sentence that matters most for American resellers is the one that did not move. The terms still say you may use the service "for your personal benefit only and not for any professional purposes." Europe is building a Vinted Pro tier for business sellers. The US text was not given one. That is not new, but a terms refresh is the moment to notice it rather than the moment to assume it got fixed.

What to do about it: if Vinted is a real channel for you, keep it as a channel and not a foundation. The rules that would end your account there are unchanged and still enforced by hidden listings and suspensions, so anything you would be sick to lose belongs on a platform that wants business sellers.

Poshmark will now take ad money straight out of your balance

Poshmark's seller update added Apple Pay, Google Pay and Redeemable Balance as payment methods for Promoted Closet. The last one is the one worth pausing on. Money you earned on Poshmark can now pay Poshmark for advertising without ever passing through your bank.

Poshmark pairs it with a claim that promoting sellers see "up to a 40% increase in sales and up to an 80% increase in listing views." Note the phrase up to, which describes a ceiling and not a typical result.

The same update names a Smart List AI rebuild that reads brand and care tags off your photos to fill in category, material, size, condition and color, then writes a title, a description and pricing guidance and picks the cover shot. What to do about it: pay for ads from the balance if you want the convenience, but write the spend down somewhere outside Poshmark before you do. A cost that never leaves the app is a cost you will not feel, and a cost you do not feel is one you will not measure against the sales it actually produced. Cash out at least once during any month you advertise so the real number crosses your eyes.
