Reselling News: Poshmark Adds a Sourcing Calendar and Whatnot Makes Seller Support Mandatory

Two marketplaces moved this week, and they moved in opposite directions. Poshmark handed sellers more information before the buy. Whatnot handed sellers more responsibility after the sale. Both land on the same person, and only one of them comes with a clock.

Poshmark put a sourcing calendar in the app

Poshmark published a seller update on August 31 that leads with a Sourcing Calendar, a view of what is selling now and what the company expects to trend next. It sits inside Sourcing Insights, the feature Poshmark introduced on June 9 that surfaces marketplace data updated daily to show which brand and category combinations are selling fastest over the last seven days. You find it under Me Tab, then Seller Tools, then Insights. Value Added Resource walked through the full update on September 4.

The rest of the update is a mix of shipped and coming. Posh Shows get a Show Analytics dashboard with show-level views and sales plus a 30-day recap, along with bulk inventory upload and more flexible auction timing. Promoted Closet ads can now be paid with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or your Poshmark redeemable balance, so ad spend can come out of money you have already earned instead of a card. Poshmark says sellers using Promoted Closet see up to a 40 percent increase in sales and up to an 80 percent increase in listing views, which is the company's own figure, not an independent one.

The Smart List AI rebuild is the piece worth watching, and it is not in your hands yet. Poshmark describes photographing the product, the brand tag, and the care tag, then having the tool identify brand, category, material, size, condition, and color before it writes the title, the description, and pricing guidance and picks a cover photo. The company says testing kicks off soon. A Seller Hub for inventory and sales tracking is also listed as coming, with no date attached.

What to do about it: treat the calendar as a demand signal, not a buy list. Knowing that a brand is moving tells you nothing about whether the specific piece in your hand is worth what the rack is asking. A hot category with a bad buy price is still a loss. Pull the sold comps for the exact item, in the exact condition, before the money leaves your pocket.

Whatnot made seller-run support the standard on September 1

Whatnot's Seller Provided Support announcement says the program gives sellers direct ownership of buyer issues, with the tools to resolve missing items, damaged items, and delays from the Customer Support tab in their own inbox. All existing US sellers were enrolled by September 1, 2026, with international rollout later this year. ChannelX reported the shift on September 1.

Two numbers matter. Sellers have two business days to respond to a buyer issue, and if that window passes and the buyer escalates, Whatnot may step in, refund the buyer, and bill the amount back to the seller. Separately, from September 1, earning or keeping Premier Shop status requires a support rating of Great or Excellent and a response to at least 95 percent of buyer requests inside that same two-day window.

What to do about it: put the inbox on the schedule. Ninety-five percent leaves almost no room, and a single week where you are traveling, sick, or heads-down on a big lot can take the rating down faster than a good month brings it back. Pick a fixed time each day, clear the Customer Support tab, and answer even the messages you cannot solve yet. A short reply inside two days protects the rating and the refund.

The takeaway

Better data in front of the buy and a running clock behind the sale reward the same seller: the one working from a written routine instead of memory. Building that routine, and knowing which numbers to check before you hand over the cash, is the work we do inside The Income Lab.
