Reselling News: Facebook Launches a Standalone Seller App and Poshmark Drops Its Excessive Listing Removal Policy

Facebook launches a standalone Seller app for Marketplace with AI listing tools, and Poshmark scraps its Excessive Listing Removal Policy after a year of complaints.

Two developments this week point the same direction. The platforms are competing for sellers again, and that competition tends to be good for the person doing the listing. One is a brand new tool from Facebook. The other is a walked-back policy from Poshmark that a lot of resellers had been fighting for more than a year.

Facebook launched a standalone app just for Marketplace sellers

On Friday, July 24, Facebook released a separate app called Seller, built specifically for people who sell on Marketplace. It is live now on the App Store for U.S. users 18 and older, with Android and web versions still in testing, according to Meta's own announcement and reporting from TechCrunch.

The pitch is a real seller desk instead of a buyer app with selling bolted on. It has AI listing creation, where you upload photos and Meta generates a title, description, suggested price, and category. It adds a unified inbox for buyer messages, basic inventory management, performance data, and a free verification badge. It syncs your existing listings, messages, and selling history from your Marketplace account, so you are not starting over. Meta says Marketplace carries about 430 million listings a month worldwide, and this is the platform building out tools to keep its most active sellers there.

For a reseller, the takeaway is not to move your business onto Facebook. It is that a genuinely local, low-fee channel just got easier to run from your phone. Local pickup on Marketplace clears bulky and heavy items that eat your shipping margin on eBay, furniture, exercise gear, larger lots. If you have been ignoring Marketplace because the old flow was clunky, this is a reason to test it with a handful of listings that are a pain to ship. Treat the AI-written titles as a first draft you fix, not a finished listing.

Poshmark scrapped its Excessive Listing Removal Policy

Poshmark is rolling back the Excessive Listing Removal Policy it introduced in the spring of 2025, after more than a year of seller complaints, per Value Added Resource. That policy, effective May 1, 2025, barred sellers from repeatedly removing and relisting the same item within 60 days and from doing mass listing removals by hand or by tool. Sellers said it punished normal closet maintenance, and some reported getting flagged even while following the rules, as Modern Retail documented.

In its place Poshmark is adding a seller recognition program tied to performance and search visibility. That part is not all upside. One of the qualifying metrics is approved return cases, and sellers have pointed out they do not control whether Poshmark approves a return, and have long complained those decisions are inconsistent.

If you sell on Poshmark, the practical effect is that you can go back to refreshing and relisting stale inventory without watching a 60-day clock, which is one of the simplest ways to push an aging listing back into search. Just keep an eye on how the new recognition program scores you, especially on return cases, before you lean on it.

The timing is worth noting. Poshmark announced the reversal one day after the proposed Online Sellers' Bill of Rights Act of 2026 landed, federal legislation aimed squarely at sudden policy changes, opaque enforcement, and account actions with no real appeal.

The takeaway

When platforms compete for sellers, you get better tools and softer rules, but the leverage only helps if you actually use more than one channel. Test the Facebook Seller app on items that are hard to ship, relist freely on Poshmark again, and keep your own records so no single platform's rules decide your month. Building a business that stands on more than one channel is exactly what we work through step by step inside The Income Lab.
