Reselling News: eBay's Holiday Playbook Lands Early and Lower USPS Rates Start Today
eBay released its 2026 Seller Holiday Playbook this week, and the USPS rate cut on 2 lb Ground Advantage and Zone 8 Priority Mail takes effect today.
August is the month most resellers spend not thinking about December. eBay picked this week to make that harder, and USPS picked today to change what your packages cost.
eBay put its holiday playbook out in August
eBay released the 2026 eBay Seller Holiday Playbook to sellers on August 20. eBay describes it as US shopper research plus its own insights, organized around three things: shopper demographics meant to help you plan earlier and price competitively, listing and advertising changes that improve discovery, and the shipping, returns, and product details that build buyer trust.
Worth being clear about what eBay did and did not publish. The announcement does not include the underlying figures, so the playbook itself is the source, not the summary post. It arrives alongside eBay's August seller news, which this month is carrying apparel size standardization and the new Item Not Received protection on eBay labels.
What to do about it: the useful part of an August holiday guide is the calendar more than the tips. Listings that already exist in October are the ones with sell-through history when December traffic shows up. Whatever you source in the next six weeks is what you actually have to sell in the fourth quarter, so the sourcing decision is the holiday decision.
The USPS rate cut on eBay is live today
eBay told sellers the USPS rate update takes effect today, August 22. Two bands get cheaper:

The exclusion matters as much as the cut: the lower rates do not apply to packages headed to rural ZIP codes. If you use calculated shipping, eBay says the shipping calculator picks up the new rates on its own and there is nothing for you to do.
EcommerceBytes reported the change on August 19 and put it in context: this is the latest in a run of USPS rate updates eBay has passed along since June, and most of those went the other way, including the increase on 3 to 5 lb Ground Advantage packages to Zones 5 through 8 that landed on August 8.
What to do about it: if you sell with free shipping, your price already absorbed the old rate table. Pull your active listings that land in the 2 lb band and look at what you were eating on the far zones, because that number just got smaller. Two pounds is where a folded jacket, a pair of boots, or a small appliance tends to land once it is boxed, so this is not a rare weight.
eBay Open finishes its road tour in Miami
The fourth and final stop of eBay Open: On the Road is October 15 in Miami, after San Diego, Chicago, and Dallas. It runs one day in person: a main stage presentation, a live seller panel over brunch, seller clinics with one-on-one guidance from eBay Marketplace Advisors, workshops, and a closing happy hour. eBay says spots are limited.
What to do about it: if you are within driving distance, the clinics are the part that pays for the gas. Show up with one specific problem, not a general question about sales being slow.
The takeaway
Three items pointing the same direction. eBay is telling you in August to get the fourth quarter sorted, the shipping math on light packages changed this morning, and the last in-person event is under two months away.
